A fragrant and fresh nose. Sweet pear and apple peels come through thick, aromatic smoke, with pinches of maritime salt from kippers and seaweed. It’s a peat bonfire with black pepper, a hint of brine, and dried barley. A gorgeous and delicate balance is provided by the pleasant arrival of orchard fruit. Bonfire embers roast malt and crystallize a sweet underlay in the lengthy aftertaste.
The Isle of Skye’s famous Island whisky. This welcome member of Diageo’s Classic Malts collection has been recognized multiple times for its excellence, having been aged for a minimum of ten years in American oak casks. Warm peat melds with seaside air in this very pleasant combination, which is balanced by orchard fruit and juicy barley. A fantastic after-dinner dram.
It was named an Editor’s Choice by Whisky Magazine, received a gold medal at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and was named the ‘Best Islands Single Malt’ at the 2017 World Whiskies Awards.
